What exactly is FLOVED for a bed?

FLOVED is actually a permanent sleeper, day bed, functional bed and further developed stacking bed.

What does FLOVED mean is a permanent sleeper?

FLOVED, as we wrote in a previous blog, is definitely a permanent sleeper, which means it's great for people looking for a solution they can sleep on 365 days a year with a clear conscience.

With the ergonomically shaped slatted frames, even adjustable on one side, and the high-quality 5-zone cold foam mattresses, you don't need to worry about your health at all; you sleep just like in any other high-quality double bed. You can't exactly say the same about classic sofa beds.

What does FLOVED mean is a day bed, or a functional bed?

FLOVED is actually a classic day bed, because a day bed is a bed that you can also use as a comfortable seat during the day. Especially when a bed is placed in a room that is not a bedroom, let's take a living room, a guest room or a studio where there is only one room for everything, then you don't like to look at a bed all day, but rather at a piece of furniture that looks a little more homely. That's why people like to use sofa cushions on a day bed, then it looks more like a normal sofa, and of course you can use it as a seat during the day. So it's actually a bed with seating, and usually a bed with storage as well. This storage space is extremely important for a day bed, because during the day the duvet and pillow have to disappear somewhere. Many other daybeds of this type have a large drawer at the bottom, but this often hides the second mattress. With FLOVED, the second mattress sits above the drawer, which not only provides more storage space but also ensures that you sleep on the second mattress at a comfortable height of approx. 40 cm.

When is a day bed better than a sofa bed?

A day bed is basically a bed that you can also use as a seat, a sofa bed is primarily a sofa that you can also use for sleeping. So actually we move on an axis, on one side is the bed, on the other side is the sofa. Combinations such as daybeds and sofa beds are a kind of combination of both and therefore lie on this axis, except that the sofa bed is much closer to the outer point of the sofa, and the daybed is much closer to the outer point of the bed. This means that if you want to use your combination primarily for sitting, let's say in the living room, and occasionally for visitors, you are probably better off with a classic sofa with a sleeping function. But if you want to host guests regularly, or even sleep on the furniture yourself regularly, and not also use it as a seat all the time, you are probably better off with a day bed: With its high-quality mattresses and ergonomic slatted frames, the day bed simply offers much greater sleeping comfort!

A day bed is simply a full bed, without compromise: A good day bed that supports the spine because their mattresses adapt perfectly to the body is the prerequisite for healthy and restful sleep. Only regular beds and day beds can fulfil this prerequisite!

What does FLOVED mean is a functional bed?

In our case, FLOVED is not only a single bed with a seat and lots of storage space, but also a double bed, all in one. Many people also call such a bed a functional bed or multi-functional bed, i.e. when a bed combines several functions in one.

What does FLOVED mean? It is a more advanced stacking bed.

Actually, one can say FLOVED is the logical further development of the stacking couch or stacking beds, which were first introduced in 1966: The "stacking bed" is a stackable bed made of plywood whose design found numerous imitators (source: Wikipedia; retrieval: 21.02.2022).

Stacking beds are actually normal beds with one special feature: they are stackable and thus enormously space-saving. Stacking beds can be used as single beds, double beds or as two separate beds!

In principle, the stacking bed was the forefather of the idea of "stacking" one bed on top of the other, and if you wanted to use it for two people, simply lift the upper stacking bed and place it next to the other stacking bed underneath, and the double bed was ready. This has certainly inspired generations since the 60s, but to be honest, the classic stacking couch or stacking beds also have a few disadvantages:

  • You have to lift the upper stacking bed completely! That means bending far forward and then lifting it high, very high, it hurts your back just imagining it!
  • The stacking couch or the stacking beds have no castors, so if two people want to use the 2 stacking couches (stacking beds) and you don't want to sleep parallel to the wall, then it's back to lifting up both stacking couches (stacking beds) and turning them 90 degrees in the air into the room. That should be easier today, shouldn't it?
  • The stacking beds we know don't have a bed base; that's a shame, isn't it? Storage space is so important nowadays, especially if you want to hide bedding during the day, so that it doesn't look so much like a bedroom or guest room, but simply more homely...
  • During joint activity (well, you know what we mean), the two stacking beds then tend to slip apart a little or even a whole piece, because they are not connected to each other either, that is in the nature of things, when something moves...

With FLOVED, the two bed halves are not only always firmly connected to each other, but there is also the foam connecting piece, which has exactly the same cover as the mattresses and fits perfectly into the approx. 6 cm wide gap between the two mattresses. Then you can also use a double fitted sheet and have a large play area throughout!

To pick up on the previous 3 points: you probably already know that FLOVED has a really large drawer as a bed base and castors, the two front ones of which can be fixed with brakes to prevent the bed from rolling away, but when the brakes are released it can simply roll and turn into any position in the room, and the top half can simply be folded down, leaving the slatted frame with the mattress horizontally in the air...

1966 was the year of the stacking couch, 2022 is the year of FLOVED
